ORIGIN
Half-moon Conures are native to Costa Rica and southwestern Mexico. You would usually find them in the savannas, treetops, and abandoned woodpecker homes.
DESCRIPTION
These conures have naked eye rings like macaws. They have a bright green color on their wing and back feathers which eventually turn to emerald green. They have a horn-colored beak with an orange band above their beak with a blue forehead. They can live for up to 30 years and are approximately 9.5 inches.
TEMPERAMENT
Playing and climbing is their favorite activity. They are very sociable birds that require much attention from their owners. Unlike some other birds, they fancy bathing. This species is not as destructive as some other conures and parrots. Compared to other conures they are not very noisy. Though they would still make noise, their volume is, however, lower than the others of this species. They are a good option if you want a less chatty medium-sized bird that can mimic sounds
CAGE
A spacious square or rectangular cage appropriate is most preferable. Advisably, do a thorough checking of the security mechanism of the cage before purchase. Their Cage size should be approximate; 24″ W x 24″ H x 24″ D and Bar spacing of 5/8″ to 3/4″. The cage should be a strong one (wrought iron, stainless steel) so it can withstand the conure’s tough beak. Horizontal bar wires will allow the conure to exercise by climbing on the sides of the cage.
DIETARY PLAN
A conure should be provided with the proper diet to keep it happy and content. Their regular diet includes nuts, veggies, small-sized pasta, fruits, cooked chicken or turkey, pellets, and other bits and pieces of food. Many would prefer boiled vegetables to fresh ones. Accompanied with plenty of freshwaters.
